The classic 4-Day Sino Tibet-Nepal Highway Landscape Adventure from Lhasa to Kyirong Border takes you on a journey to visit some of the most iconic natural landmarks in Tibet, such as the holy Lake Yamdrok, the stunning Karola Glacier and the one and only Mt. Everest. The trip combines the amazing views of the Himalayas with the picturesque countryside of the Tibetan plateau. 

We have every Monday departure from Lhasa. Be sure you have 2-3 days flexible in Lhasa before joining this landscape adventure.

Day 1: Lhasa Yamdrok-Karola Glacier-Pelkhor Monastery-Gyantse-Shigatse (350 km, about 8-10 hours)
Accommodation: Shigatse city Gesar hotel or Shigatse Manasarovar Hotel or similar one if late booking
Day 2: Shigatse- Shegar-EBC (340 km, about 7-8 hours)
Accommodation: You can choose to stay at nomad tent house near Campsite or guesthouse near Rongphu Monastery 
Day 3: EBC to Kyirong border (370 km, about 8-10 hours)
Accommodation: Guesthouse at Kyirong
Day 4: Kyirong border to Kathmandu-Final departure

Itinerary

Day1

Lhasa Lake Yamdrok Karola Glacier-Gyantse-Shigatse city, 350 km  

We will start our journey by visiting Yamdrok Lake(4400m), one of the must-see attractions on the main route between Lhasa and Everest Base Camp. It is a high altitude lake in the shape of a scorpion surrounded by snow-capped mountains. It is considered one of the holiest Tibetan lakes, so you shouldn’t miss it. We will arrive at the Karola Glacier shortly afterwards. You will enjoy the great proximity of its beautiful terrain because it is situated only steps away off the road. Our next stop is Pelkhor Chode Monastery, an important religious and historic site in the heart of Gyantse town. We will stay overnight in Shigatse(3900m).Accommodation: Shigatse Gesar Hotel or similar one if late booking

Day2

Shigatse-Lhatse-Shegar-Rongphu-Everest Base Camp, 340 km

We will start the morning early and energized, and visit Tashilhunpo Monastery- the home of Panchen Lama. We will have a lunch break in Lhatse and continue onto Tingri. You will then pass Tsola Pass(4600m) and Gyatsola Pass(5248m). By the late afternoon, you will already be in Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve. You can enjoy the panorama of the Himalayas at Gawula Pass (5198m). We will continue to drive along the newly paved zigzag road until we reach Rongpuk or the Camp to stay overnight there. You might catch a glimpse of the sunset that turns the Everest peak into gold. Between May and October 15, we will normally travel the last few kilometers to reach the Camp to stay at the nomad’s tent house there. From Oct.15 till end of April, we will instead stay at Rongbuk Monastery’s guesthouse or Tashitsong town, 40 km from Everest Base Camp at a lower altitude. The location of your stay is subject to availability and weather condition.

Day3

Everest B.C-Tibet border Kyirong 400 km

You can get up early and see the sunrise of Everest Peak from the lodging area if the sky is clear. You can then take the eco-bus back to the Everest Base Camp or do a short trek for the 4km distance. After visiting Rongpuk Monastery, the only place where nuns and monks live together, we will leave for Gyirong, the last town on the Tibetan side of the border. On the way, you can spot the breathtaking Mt. Shishapangma and Pekutso Lake. After passing Ghungtang Lhamo (5236m), we will finally arrive in Gyirong in late afternoon. We will stay overnight in a guesthouse in Gyirong.

Day4

Kyiring border to Kathmandu

Your Tibetan tour guide and driver will see you off to the Gyirong border and help you clear the custom at the immigration office. You will extend the trip to Kathmandu by yourself. We hope you have enjoyed our accompany, and wish you the best on your future adventure.

Additional information

  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking
  • For our agency to apply your permits, the booking date should be at least 20-25 days prior to arrival date in Lhasa
  • Travelers must provide the Actual LHASA arrival date and LHASA departure date with cities name (Eg. Sept.10 Chengdu to Lhasa, Sept.19 Lhasa to Shanghai)
  • Price is based on double occupancy. Single room supplement (two nights in Shigatse US$70 per single room user) is subject to availability and additional charge
  • Traveler needs to provide photocopy of valid passport and China visa at least 20-25 days before Lhasa arrival date
  • Traveler needs to provide contact name, phone number, and hotel or residential address in mainland China before entering Tibet for Travel Permits delivery (This could be your hotel address or living address in China)
  • All foreign travelers entering Tibet from Nepal need additional Tibet Group Visa (TGV requires additional cost ranging from USD$150 to USD$250 depending on traveler's nationality and 3 working days of processing time). We can assist you with obtaining the TGV in Kathmandu
  • All China visa requirements are the sole responsibility of the traveler if they travel from mainland China to Tibet
  • During this tour, the altitude you will travel is ranging from 11,975 feet (3,650 meters) to 17,060 feet (5,200 meters) above sea level. It is common for travelers to experience adverse health effects due to this altitude regardless of age, gender, and fitness level. It is highly recommended that you discuss with your doctor prior to tour departure and also start a exercise regimen in the weeks leading to your trip. Moreover high altitude medicine is suggested.
  • Rest breaks are available at any time throughout tour if you find walking to be too strenuous due to the elevation
  • Minimum age is 6 years.
  • Minimum group size is 4, and 4 people needed to book at a time for the special prices listed, but if there are only 1 to 2 people to sign up at a time, the departure date and the price will be reconfirmed by your consultant.
  • Tibet weather changes often and this may result to road condition change, local tour supplier reserves the rights to adjust and optimize the actual tour itinerary according to the local weather, climate, road and travel policy situation.
