Tibet Nyingchi Milin Airport-East Gateway Airport of Tibet
Nyingchi Airport, the third civil airport in Tibet welcomes its maiden flight, a Boeing 757, at 9:00 am September 1, marking the aviation launch of the airport.
Circled alps, narrow aviation route and changeable weather cause a top difficulty for the flight of Nyingchi ariport lying in the valley of Yarlung Zangbo River in southeast Qinghai-Tibet plateau.
Jiang Wenxue, director general of Tibetan branch General Administration of Civil Aviation of China said that, it's a big success of the maiden flight safely touching down on the Nyingchi Airport.
The launch of Nyingchi Airport will exert itself to promote the economic development in Nyingchi and perfect the Tibetan aviation grid.
Boasting the well-known good climate in Nyingchi, the airport, only 2,949 meters above sea level, will be a probable first-rank entrance for tourists visiting Tibet.
"In the past, if you want to go to Nyingchi, you should fly to Lhasa first, and then took 6-hour bus trip to Nyingchi. And now, it's so easy by air. And I haven't feel sick from altitude pressure." said Mr. Mou, a tourist on the maiden flight to Nyingchi.
The construction of Nyingchi Airport started in October 2003, with a total investment of 780 million yuan (about 86.6 million US dollars). The airport is designed with a capacity of 120,000 people till 2010.
Caused by the rising wind speed at 27 meters per second from 14:00 to 18:00 every day, only 100 days are airworthy accumulatively all year round.
