1 Day Lhasa to Ganden Monastery Hiking Tour

Itinerary

We will pick you up from your hotel at 9:30 am and drive to Ganden Monastery. The distance is about 60km and we will arrive at the monastery at about 10:40 am. Then we start to visit the monastery. With our knowledgeable tour guide, you will learn much about Gelugpa and Tibetan Buddhism. At noon, we will have lunch in the restaurant in the monastery.

In the afternoon, we will start the hiking and follow the Ganden Kora. Along the way, you will view the Kyi-chu Valley and the scenery is very stunning.

After the trekking, we will transfer you to the hotel in Lhasa.

Ganden Monastery 

Ganden Monastery is the 1st Gelugpa Monastery built by Tsong Khapa, the founder of Gelugpa Sect. It is located on the Wangbur Mountain, with an elevation of 3800 km, 47 km from Lhasa on the southern bank of Lhasa River. "Ganden" is the Tibetan name meaning Paradise of Maitreya Buddha. It is the ancestoral monastery of Gelugpa and enjoys a high reputation. Also, it is the main Gelugpa institution. Together with Drepung and Sera Monastery, Ganden Monastery is one of the "Three Large Monasteries of Lhasa". 

There are about 50 buildings in the monastery, comprising a big complex. The main buildings include Coqen Hall, Tomb of Tsong Khapa, Chapel of Jampa and Assembly Hall.

Hiking around and Doing Ganden Kora

The Ganden Kora is famous for the sunning view. You can see Kyi-chu Valley along the way and doing the kora with devout pilgrims and monks. They hold the prayer wheels, rubbing the rocks and prostrated themselves along the path.
